Medical devices that dissolve in water nearer to tests on humans

URBANA — Safe, implantable medical devices that will dissolve rather than be cut out could begin human trials in as little as two years, a University of Illinois professor said Thursday.

The materials could also create compostable electronics such as cellphones, and noncontaminating sensors for water systems.

Electronics-collection event to be held Saturday

DANVILLE — A free electronics-collection event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Advantage Recycling, 14 S. Henning Road, Danville.

RTHS board OKs phone system upgrade

RANTOUL — Make a phone call to Rantoul Township High School, and chances are, that call will cut out or end up disconnected.

The RTHS board this week approved 7-0 to fix the current phone system and make efforts to ensure dropped calls or disconnected calls don't happen in the future.

Pavlov upgrades free wireless in downtown Champaign

CHAMPAIGN — Pavlov Media has upgraded the Wi-Fi network in downtown Champaign, improving the system's download speed to 10 megabits per second.

The Champaign-based company began offering free Wi-Fi downtown in 2007 through a partnership with the city of Champaign. The upgrade was completed a few weeks ago, Pavlov spokesman Christopher Hunt said.

Vermilion County Board picks electric aggregator, won't seek bids

DANVILLE — By a unanimous vote, the Vermilion County Board decided Tuesday night to contract with Integrys Energy Services for the next phase of the county's electric aggregation program rather than seeking bids from alternative electric suppliers.
