No matter how you get around the University of Illinois, the university's Facilities and Services Department wants your feedback about bikes on campus.

Firm to start bus service between UI and O'Hare

CHAMPAIGN — Express Air Coach will begin providing shuttle bus service between the University of Illinois and Chicago's O'Hare Airport on Dec. 18, the company announced Tuesday.

The company plans to offer three non-stop trips daily between the two sites, with a flat rate of $45 for a one-way trip.

Federal agency shuts down Champaign bus company

CHAMPAIGN — Federal officials ordered a Champaign-based bus company to shut down its operations on Friday.

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced it had issued an order requiring LEX Express Inc. to shut down.

Bus service to Y will begin in January

CHAMPAIGN — Direct bus service to the Stephens Family YMCA of Champaign County probably will begin in January, the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District board decided Wednesday.

Police agencies to give bikes away

URBANA — The Urbana and University of Illinois police departments will be offering free bicycles to citizens of Champaign-Urbana and the surrounding areas on Dec. 14.

The bike giveaway is set for 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 14 in front of 704 S. Glover St., U, according to Urbana police Lt. Robert Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald said police are asking that each person be limited to one bike.

Part of Nevada Street to close Monday

URBANA — Nevada Street from Coler to Busey avenues will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. Monday to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, for a water main replacement. Local traffic will be allowed.
 

MTD could start service to Y in January

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District buses could begin offering expanded service to the Stephens Family YMCA as early as January, Director Bill Volk said Wednesday.

The change is precipitated by Tuesday night's vote by the board of the Champaign Southwest Mass Transit District that it eventually will dissolve.

CHAMPAIGN — The board of the Champaign Southwest Mass Transit District voted unanimously Tuesday to begin the process of dissolving the taxing district that was formed seven years ago to block expansion of the larger Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District.

MTD to display art on buses

URBANA — The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District is looking for area artists to provide work that would be displayed on the district's buses, via the new program MTD ART: Moving Pictures Through Your Neighborhood. The MTD is collaborating with 40 North 88 West, the local arts council, and Dixon Graphics on the project.
