Updated: Power outages reported across area

Scattered power outages are affecting hundreds of residents of East Central Illinois.

Ameren reports on its outage website that power is out for about 600 customers in Champaign, mostly in ZIP codes 61821 and 61822. Also affected by the outage are Savoy.


Multiple weather advisories out for East Central Illinois

Three separate weather advisories are out for East Central Illinois, as we're expected to get a dose of winter weather on Thursday afternoon.

A Blizzard Warning is in effect until midnight Thursday for McLean, DeWitt and Macon Counties.


Cities ready for potential storm

CHAMPAIGN — As a winter storm system moving into central Illinois threatens to end Champaign-Urbana's snowless streak on Thursday, city public works crews say they are prepared for anything nature throws at them.

They have been for weeks, but the plows haven't rolled out of the garages yet.


High wind advisories issued for East Central Illinois

The National Weather Service has issued a pair of wind advisories for East Central Illinois on Thursday.

From 3-9 p.m., the following counties are under a High Wind Warning:  Champaign, Vermilion, Douglas, Edgar, Coles, Piatt, Macon, DeWitt, McLean, Moultrie and Shelby.


Rain possible Monday; Snow could fall later this week

CHAMPAIGN — Monday afternoon could bring showers, according to the National Weather Service, and Champaign-Urbana could see some flakes fall before the end of the week.

The start of the work week could be cloudy with a high temperature around 44 degrees, and the weather service forecasts a 30 percent chance of rain during the day, mainly after noon.


280 snowless days unusual, but no record

CHAMPAIGN — Being snowless this far into December is unusual in East Central Illinois, but not unheard of.

Still, the weather forecast for the next two weeks doesn't give snow-lovers much to cheer about. That means that Champaign-Urbana will build on its current streak of 280 days without a measurable snow.


Forecast says cold but sunnier as the week progresses

CHAMPAIGN — After a rainy, foggy start to the week, the National Weather Service says the next couple days will be colder and windy, but most of the week should be sunny.

Temperatures will drop below freezing overnight Sunday into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Monday will bring a chance of snow flurries and a high temperature around 34 degrees.


Monday high temperature sets record for date, ties mark for December

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign-Urbana set a record high temperature for Dec. 3 and tied the all-time December high reading early Monday afternoon.

The temperature officially reached 71 degrees at 1:29 p.m. Monday, tying the month's highest reading set on Dec. 4, 1998, and breaking the old Dec. 3 record of 68 degrees in 1970.
