Master of Fine Arts exhibit opens Saturday

CHAMPAIGN — The University of Illinois School of Art + Design Master of Fine Arts Exhibition will open Saturday at Krannert Art Museum, with the opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. that day.

The annual exhibition showcases works, generally cutting-edge, by the MFA candidates at the university.

'Hairspray' comes to Assembly Hall

The Illini Union Board will present "Hairspray," the musical, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday during Mom's Weekend at the University of Illinois Assembly Hall.

The production is entirely produced, directed and performed by UI students.

Quilt festival scheduled this weekend

URBANA — For the ninth consecutive year, Cunningham Children's Home will host the Festival of Quilts from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Spiritual Life Center on the campus.

The Festival of Quilts, presented by Arby's, celebrates a special tradition at Cunningham.

URBANA — A judge on Wednesday denied a musician's request for an emergency stalking/no contact order against Champaign Mayor Don Gerard, but set a hearing later this month on a request for an order of protection.

Rantoul hosting exercises for area emergency units

RANTOUL — The village will be teeming with state and area emergency response agencies beginning Thursday and ending Saturday as they participate in a domestic emergency response exercise.

Rantoul Fire Chief Ken Waters said hundreds of emergency personnel will be on hand during all or part of the three days. Among those participating will be the Illinois National Guard.
