Next stop for Meyers Leonard: NBA

CHAMPAIGN — Growing up in a modest two-bedroom home in Robinson, across the street from his favorite Chinese restaurant, Meyers Leonard had dreams of an NBA career.

He's going after that dream.

The Illinois sophomore said Monday he would forgo his final two seasons of college eligibility and enter the NBA draft.

The Illini were 8 shots behind No. 1 Texas and host Augusta State.

CHAMPAIGN — Illinois scored 10 runs in the first three innings and stayed in command thereafter to defeat Mississippi Valley State 12-4 on Saturday in a nonconference baseball game at Illinois Field. The top of the batting order did most of the damage for the Illini, with the first five hitters combining to go 11 for 20 with nine RBI and eight runs.
