Buchanan: 'I dreamed for this opportunity'

Hugh Thornton arrived at Illinois a three-star recruit from Oberlin (Ohio) High School.

Michael Buchanan arrived with a bit more hype as a four-star high school prospect coming out of Homewood-Flossmoor (Ill.) High School.

The two signees from the Class of 2009 could hear their names called during the 2013 NFL Draft, which takes place April 25-27.

Allegretti chooses Illinois

Heading into Monday, the Illinois football team did not have any verbal commitments from any players in the Class of 2014.

By late Monday night, the number had increased to two.

Odenigbo first Class of 2014 commit

The Illinois football team received a verbal commitment from Tito Odenigbo on Monday night.

Odenigbo is a junior defensive end from Centerville (Ohio) High School and is the first Class of 2014 player to commit to Illinois coach Tim Beckman.

Bridge's departure raises recruiting questions

Jim Bridge brought a sterling recruiting reputation with him to Illinois.

Now, that pedigree will go somewhere else.

Bridge, hired Jan. 23 as the offensive line coach at Illinois, reportedly took the same job at Purdue on Tuesday, the same day spring practices started at Illinois.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Devyn Marble scored 21 points and Iowa beat Illinois 63-55 on Tuesday night for its fifth win in seven games.

Josh Oglesby added 10 for the surging Hawkeyes (19-11, 8-9 Big Ten). They tied a school record with 12 blocked shots, including six from Gabe Olaseni off the bench.
