Groce: 'Stay the same, you're gonna get lapped'

CHAMPAIGN — When the Ubben Basketball Complex opened in 1998, Illinois’ practice facility was the talk of college basketball.

First-year Illinois coach John Groce was an assistant at North Carolina State at the time and was aware of what was happening in Champaign.

State volleyball champ picks Illini


Setter McKenna Kelsay, who guided Wheaton St. Francis to a state volleyball title last fall, has orally committed to Illinois.

The 5-foot-8 senior announced her decision this week on Twitter.

“She’s the real deal,” St. Francis coach Peg Kopec said Friday. “She’s a very athletic, talented girl. Very competitive.”

Postseason play nears for Class of 2013 signee

While the Illinois men’s basketball team still has two weeks left in its regular season, the postseason is nearing for five recruits of John Groce who will be in Champaign at this time next year.

For the third straight year, an Illinois men's basketball recruit will not play in the McDonald's All-American game.

The prestigious high school boys basketball game will take place at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, at Chicago's United Center. The game will be televised on ESPN.

CHAMPAIGN — The Illinois football team made an appearance at Monday’s game. A majority of players sat behind the bleachers closest to the Wisconsin bench wearing their navy blue jersey tops in the first half.
