CHAMPAIGN — Two years ago, faced with the grim reality that she would not win her battle with cancer, Jen Smith quit her job as a student services adviser at Parkland College.
“I decided with whatever time I have left, I’m going to focus on living,” the Champaign native said. “And not just living, but living legendary was the slogan I went by.”
CHAMPAIGN — With their next game eight days away — an eternity on the college basketball calendar — members of the Illinois women’s team learned Sunday just how light the practice schedule would be over the next five days.
Final: Illinois 76, Minnesota 66
Led by Adrienne GodBold and Amber Moore, the Illini scored 16 of the final 22 points of the game to pull away to a Big Ten victory at the Assembly Hall Sunday afternoon.

CHAMPAIGN — A second member of the Illinois women’s basketball team has seen her playing career ended by injury this season.
Sophomore Kierra Morris was medically disqualified by the UI, the school announced Tuesday. The 6-foot-4 center had not played this season due to chronic pain from a left knee injury that occurred during the 2011-12 season.
CHAMPAIGN — Matt Bollant has taken to calling his Illinois women’s basketball team the Road Warriors for its flawless record in Big Ten Conference away games.
The first-year Illini coach might also have reason to come up with a nickname for the mainstays of his roster. Perhaps something like the Sturdy Six.
