UI women could get another home date

CHAMPAIGN — The Illinois women’s basketball team might not have played its final home game of the season after all.

If the Illini win their Women’s National Invitation Tournament third-round game Thursday night at Toledo, a quarterfinal contest at the Assembly Hall is a possibility.

Bollant open to in-state scheduling

CHAMPAIGN — During his five seasons at Wisconsin-Green Bay, Matt Bollant’s Phoenix teams annually faced the state’s other three Division I women’s basketball programs, including Wisconsin and Marquette.

“Which was great for Green Bay,” the first-year Illinois coach said.

UI women 62, EIU 54: 'We came back and fought'

CHAMPAIGN — It might be the grimmest number on the ledger of the Illinois women’s basketball team.

When Matt Bollant’s bunch has trailed at halftime this season, its record was 1-11.

It’s not a place the Illini team wants to find itself, but that was the reality Monday night in the second round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament: Eastern Illinois 29, Illinois 26.

WNIT: Illinois 62, Eastern 54

Illini women have Moore in store

By JEFF HUTH

CHAMPAIGN — An AAU teammate started calling Amber Moore “Clutch” while she was in high school.

The Miami (Ohio) RedHawks learned firsthand Thursday night why the nickname has carried over into college.
