Teen shoots for more hoop fans

   Hi. My name is Emily Kacich. I am 13 years old. My dad said I could write one of his columns if I beat him in a game of driveway basketball so here I am. I will say this for my dad. He kept it close and I only spotted him 10 points in a game to 21.

   Anyway, he said I could write about just about anything except the county board. Leave them alone until after Christmas, he said. Sometimes he can be very sweet.


Big Ten honors UI''s Berggren

CHAMPAIGN – University of Illinois junior Ashley Berggren today was named Big Ten Conference women''s basketball player of the week.


Parker sparks surging UI women’s team

CHAMPAIGN – Nobody around the University of Illinois women’s basketball program has been concerned much about Melissa Parker’s shooting.

Neither, apparently, were Butler’s defenders on Saturday night at Huff Hall.


Press no problem for Illini womens team

   CHAMPAIGN  The game hadnt been much of a fair fight even when Southwest Missouri State could put five basketball players on the court.

   Now that it had disintegrated into a game of 5-on-4  advantage Illinois  Illini coach Theresa Grentz directed her team to pull its punches. Dad would have wanted it that way.


Illinois guard Garris nets conference honor

   University of Illinois senior Kiwane Garris has been selected Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference announced today.

   Garris averaged 26 points in three games last week, including a season-high 34 in an 89-88 overtime loss at California on Monday.
