UI women lose another player

CHAMPAIGN — A second member of the Illinois women’s basketball team has seen her playing career ended by injury this season.

Sophomore Kierra Morris was medically disqualified by the UI, the school announced Tuesday. The 6-foot-4 center had not played this season due to chronic pain from a left knee injury that occurred during the 2011-12 season.

CHAMPAIGN — Matt Bollant has taken to calling his Illinois women’s basketball team the Road Warriors for its flawless record in Big Ten Conference away games.

The first-year Illini coach might also have reason to come up with a nickname for the mainstays of his roster. Perhaps something like the Sturdy Six.


UI women 64, Wisconsin 56: 'Road Warriors'

MADISON, Wis. — The Illinois women’s basketball team won five Big Ten games all of last season.

On Thursday night at Michigan, Matt Bollant’s first Illini team has a chance to win their sixth Big Ten road game.

Illinois on Sunday held off Wisconsin 64-56, its school-record-tying fifth conference road win this season.
