Wrestling coach Mark Johnson moved into the top spot on Illinois' career coaching wins list with his 101st victory Sunday against host Penn State.

It's the number of years it has taken Mark Johnson to near the mark that impresses the Illini star.
CHAMPAIGN — Five years ago, Mark Johnson went to recruit one member of the Patrick family. He ended up with much more.
Nate Patrick joined Johnson’s Illinois wrestling team in 1996. In 1998, Nate Patrick’s sister, Rebecca, became part of the Illini soccer program. Later, their brother, Jason, became a strength coach at the school.
Illinois' Nate Patrick, wrestling at 184 pounds, finished second at the Midlands Wrestling Championship on Saturday in Evanston.
Patrick lost 14-7 to Iowa State's Cale Sanderson, who claimed his third Midlands crown.
Illinois wrestler John Lockhart, a junior from Mahomet, was named to the All-American Farm Team's second team.
CHAMPAIGN – Southern Illinois-Edwardsville only fielded half a team for its wrestling meet Sunday against Illinois at Huff Hall.
So when UI 133-pounder Kelly Madden won a 16-7 decision against SIUE's Manny Herrera, the meet already was over.

For the fifth consecutive year, Mark Johnson is taking his Illinois wrestling team to the Las Vegas Open. The loaded field includes four Top 10 teams and 11 of the Top 22.
