Kennedy, ranked fourth nationally at 141 pounds, had missed Illinois' last six dual meets with an ankle injury. The Illini struggled to a 1-4-1 mark during that span.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – No. 8 B.J. Futrell scored a technical fall at 133 pounds and Conrad Polz won a major decision at 165, but the 14th-ranked Illini lost to unranked Michigan State on Sunday.
Daryl Thomas (141) and Joe Barczak (heavyweight) also earned decisions for the Illini.
CHAMPAIGN – The 15th-ranked Illinois wrestling team took the fight to No. 5 Minnesota on Sunday at Huff Hall. In the end, the Gophers were simply too tough for the upset-minded Illini, taking the match 21-16.
B.J. Futrell, ranked seventh nationally at 133 pounds, scored a first-period pin, and Jackson Morse's major decision at 157 gave Illinois a 13-12 lead midway through the match. But the Gophers answered by winning three of the final four matches to hang on.
CHAMPAIGN — Logan Arlis (125 pounds), Conrad Polz (165) and Tony Dallago (184) each recorded pins for No. 15 Illinois in its 50-0 wrestling victory Friday against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, the fourth-highest dual-meet score in school history.
Dallago pinned Champaign Central product Deshoun White in 3 minutes, 32 seconds.
