Live from Illinois-Michigan State

CHAMPAIGN - With 1:22 left in Tuesday's game, Jereme Richmond grabbed a key offensive rebound for Illinois.

Michigan State's players walked into the team huddle saying they got pushed.

How's that? Illinois pushing back against a physical Big Ten team?

One of the knocks against No. 23 Illinois is that it doesn't respond accordingly when someone invades their personal space. That wasn't the case during a 71-62 win against No. 17 Michigan State tonight in a sold-out Assembly Hall.

5 O'Clock Shadow

News you can't leave work without:

Former Illini basketball players — and a former Chief Illiniwek — are getting together for a good cause.

HQ prediction: Illini 78-75

The Illinois coaches said they want to do what Michigan State usually does well: score in transition. One of the drills used in practices is called "Sprint Out," a drill that focuses on scoring easy baskets before the defense can set itself. "It's something we picked up from Michigan State," Weber said.

Now the Illini will play to a sold-out home crowd, end a two-game losing skid and pick off Michigan State.

Tate: Illini need homecourt more than ever this week

CHAMPAIGN – The UI's House of Paign receives the ultimate test this week.

Losing basketball games on the road is routine. Purdue just lost a pair. So did Notre Dame. Michigan overachieved at home against top-ranked unbeatens, forcing Kansas to overtime and challenging Ohio State (68-64), and then collapsed at Indiana (80-61).
