CHAMPAIGN – Joe Parkhill has never been afraid of a little hard work or a challenge. The St. Thomas More senior showed both when he came back from a shoulder separation he suffered during training camp in football season before rehabbing and coming back to run for more than 1,200 yards and 15 touchdowns despite missing the Sabers' first two games.
And he's showing those qualities again with his decision to pass up overtures from smaller schools to continue his athletic career at the college level. Instead of playing football or baseball at a lower level, Parkhill will attempt to earn a spot on the baseball team at Miami (Ohio) as a walk-on.
