ST. JOSEPH – Jake Flessner and Taylor Martinez each hit two-run homers to lead Centennial to a 7-2 nonconference baseball victory against St. Joseph-Ogden on Wednesday.
Area athletes commit to DACC
DANVILLE – At least three area athletes are expected to join what could be at least an 11-person recruiting class for Danville Area Community College women's basketball coach Lyle Hicks.
LEXINGTON – Jamie LeRoy went 2 for 4 with five RBI to lead Paxton-Buckley-Loda to a 17-6 win against Lexington on Saturday in prep baseball.
The Panthers jumped on Lexington early, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning.
MAHOMET – Josh Raymond went 4 for 4 and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle in leading Mahomet-Seymour to a 10-9 win against Effingham on Thursday.
COCOA BEACH, Fla. – Timmie Johnson had two hits as Champaign Central's baseball team earned the 1,000th victory in its history with a 5-4 win against West Mifflin (Pa.) on Wednesday.
"It's overwhelming," Central coach John Staab said. "There's a lot of rich tradition here. To be a part of it is pretty cool."
FISHER – Caleigh Hennigh pitched a no-hitter Tuesday to lead Fisher to a 7-0 softball victory against Iroquois West.
Hennigh struck out five and did not walk a batter. Fisher (1-1) led 5-0 after three innings.
SIDELL – Doesn't matter the sport or season at Salt Fork, the expectations are the same – win.
Just like the football team – which reaching the state semifinals with an 12-1 record – and the basketball team – which advanced to the sectional title game at 28-5 – the Storm's baseball team expects to keep the winning tradition alive this spring.
LOVINGTON — Monticello scored 24 times in the first inning and never looked back, cruising to a 34-1 win against Lovington-Arthur in nonconference softball action Monday. Monticello, which got a pair of doubles from Ali Moss, set an area record with its 24-run inning. The previous record for runs in an inning by an area team was 23 by Urbana in 1987.
PEORIA – Zander Culver of Champaign Central advanced Thursday to the finals of the Class 3A Three-Point Showdown basketball skills competition at Carver Arena.
The Maroons senior guard connected on 10 shot attempts during the preliminary round to finish among the top four qualifiers who will compete for the title at about 1:30 p.m. today.
ARCOLA – Jenna Harshbarger struck out nine and allowed one hit in seven innings, leading Monticello to a 6-0 victory against Arcola on Wednesday in softball.
Karli Harshbarger went 2 for 3 for the Sages, who also got an RBI from Krysten Wileaver.
