DANVILLE – Zack Johnson, Clark Schmidt and Jason Herzog scored 10 points apiece as St. Thomas More beat Schlarman 52-36 to stay in the chase for the championship at the Topper Classic boys' basketball tournament Friday. Unbeaten Paris has an edge on St. Thomas More and Chrisman, each with one loss.

Centennial nearly lets its guard down

LINCOLN – Centennial's boys' basketball team put 92 points in the scorebook Friday night, but the Chargers didn't score well with coach Tim Lavin.

"We know we'll put points on the board, but we've got to stop people," said Lavin, whose squad is averaging 87 points during its 3-0 start. "We're not taking a lot of pride in stopping people.




Topper Classic: Chrisman wins

DANVILLE - Injuries have dominated the news for the Chrisman Cardinals early this season.
Before the season, they lost the services of junior Zack Parsons after he was involved in a serious car accident, and sophomore guard Cody Owen has yet to play because of a calf injury. To top it off, senior Logan Ross was banged up in Monday's season-opening loss to St. Thomas More.

Minton provides big assist in victory

ARGENTA – Drew Minton had a triple-double and became the school's all-time assists leader in Cerro Gordo's 67-58 victory against Argenta-Oreana in boys' basketball action Tuesday.

Some in Danville cry foul over high school basketball cuts

DANVILLE – Some black community members have accused the Danville High School boys basketball head coach of racial profiling for cutting at least eight black players from an all-black team.

Now they're planning to organize a protest in an attempt to get Coach Gary Tidwell, who is white, removed.

URBANA –Dan Lilly scored a game-high 26 points, including the game-winner, as Urbana University High beat Shiloh 49-48 at the Central Illinois Turkey boys' basketball tournament Monday.
