Teams of the Week: Villa Grove girls' basketball in spotlight

The Blue Devils (21-7) won three LOVC games in four days to complete an eight-game sweep of league opponents en route to their first conference crown in the sport. Kayla Dowler hit three-pointers in each game. Courtney Helm had five treys, and Alix Ezell hit three for the week. Dowler and Ezell are juniors.

MAROA — For the third year in a row, Monticello reached the Okaw Valley Conference tournament championship. For the third year in a row, the Sages return home without this particular feather in their cap.

Late run propels SJ-O to SVC title again

CHAMPAIGN ­­— For the fourth time this season, the St. Joseph-Ogden and Cissna Park boys’ basketball teams met.

And for the fourth time, St. Joseph-Ogden emerged with a victory. Even though the Timberwolves had to make the Spartans work for this one.

PAXTON — Was it the start? Was it the finish?

It’s debatable which was more important to top-seeded St. Joseph-Ogden in Friday’s semifinal game of the Sangamon Valley Conference tournament.

The only certainty is that it wasn’t the middle portion of the contest against Clifton Central.

ANDY BROWN poured in a game-high 19 points, and the Redskins steadily pulled away. NICK FRERICHS added 10 points for Sullivan. JACOB OVERTON led Clinton with 10 points.

Thursday's prep highlights: Centennial seniors shine

Centennial 51, Danville 28. Katelynn Martinez, Chelsea Cross and Jasmine Kyler each scored 13 points for the host Chargers,. The Vikings were led by Alexus Jimson-Miller, who scored a game-high 16 points.

Wednesday's highlights: Restad powers Rockets

In boys’ basketball

Unity 46, Maroa-Forsyth 45. Matt Restad had a game-high 22 points for the Rockets at the Okaw Valley Conference tournament.

Justin Deters scored on a layup with 3.7 seconds left to lift Unity.
