Monday's highlights: Judah's Berger goes low

At Mahomet. Judah Christian's NICK BERGER shot 71 to win medalist honors at the Tiger Kick-Off Classic at Lake of the Woods. Centennial's GREY SCHULTZ was fourth at 78.

Bradley-Bourbonnais won the team title. Bismarck-Henning, led by ANDY BOTT's 79, was the top area finisher (fourth).

What a school year! State championship teams, state championship individuals, top-ranked teams. Underclassmen who have already committed to Division I universities. Athletes who are being wooed by Division I coaches. Some memories are still vivid in our minds. Some had almost been forgotten.

Danville, Monticello feel enrollment sting

Last year, schools such as Clinton, Danville, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, St. Thomas More and Tuscola were among the ones upset with the IHSA's postseason assignments, which are based on enrollments.

This year, Danville and Monticello are among the ones unhappy with how the enrollment breaks worked out.

Winds of change blowing through Okaw Valley Conference

MONTICELLO — The Okaw Valley Conference will start its 87th year of competition in August.

It won't be the last year for the venerable league, but it likely will be the next-to-last in its current 12-school setup.

MAHOMET — The state's fastest-moving boys' cross-country team has been Mahomet-Seymour. Unranked in the preseason by, coach Neal Garrison's squad climbed to third in last week's poll.

Athletes of the Week: Cox and Choquette

Recently: Tied for third in the Class 2A state meet with a 151. As a junior, he tied for 19th at state.

In his own words: "The last two years were really great. Winning a (team) state championship and then this year making state individually was a neat experience."

Second-place showing leaves B-H golfers tickled pink

BLOOMINGTON — As they drove back home following Saturday's final round of the Class 1A boys' state tournament, Bismarck-Henning's golfers could have spent the entire ride ruing a sculled shot here or a poor putt there.

After all, they came within 3 strokes of winning a state championship. Three measly strokes.

BLOOMINGTON — If Andy Bott was nervous stepping to the first tee in his inaugural appearance at the IHSA state golf meet, most would have understood.
