BLOOMINGTON — Travys Nichols scored twice and Blue Ridge’s defense smothered Bloomington Central Catholic’s attack, boosting the Knights to a 5-0 win and a Class 1A regional title Saturday.
Goalkeeper Blaene Zeigler needed to make only one save for Blue Ridge, which clinched its second regional crown in as many years.
CHAMPAIGN — No way was Urbana University High going to take Judah Christian lightly in Friday’s Class 1A boys’ soccer regional championship match.
“I’m always paranoid of having a bad day,” Illineks coach Phil Anders said. “There’s always that risk you’ll go in overconfident.”

St. Teresa 7, Arthur-Lovington 1. DAVID EMRICK scored the lone goal for the Knights in the Class 1A regional semifinal defeat at Monticello.
Danville 3, Eisenhower 0. The Vikings got two goals from LUIS RUBIO and one from CHASE THURSTON.

The Big 12 champion Vikings ran the table in doubles. Rachael and Becca Lewis prevailed at No. 1 doubles, as did Amy Shah and Neha Patel at No. 2 and Courtney Hart and Taylor Ellis at No. 3. Shah, Ellis, Patel and Hart were each triumphant in singles as coach Mark Bacys’ team extended its streak of Big 12 titles to three.

URBANA — The main goal for Randy Blackman’s Urbana boys’ soccer team each season is to win the Big 12 championship. If that means going unbeaten in the process, the Tigers will take it.
In girls’ golf
At Urbana. Prairie Central’s JACKIE DUFFY was the individual medalist and the Hawks (397) finished third behind champion Bishop McNamara (370) and runner-up Mahomet-Seymour (384) in advancing to the Class 1A state finals. PC’s EMILY HEISER added a 95 and JENNA HALE shot 99.
CHAMPAIGN — The Urbana Uni High boys’ soccer team showed why it’s a top seed in its own Class 1A regional.
The Illineks had no trouble handing fifth-seeded Fisher/Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley an 8-1 loss in a regional semifinal match Tuesday at the University of Illinois’ West Turf Field.

At Savoy. One year ago, Brock Peavler fell 1 stroke short of qualifying for the state tournament. The Rantoul/PBL senior took the memory of that near miss onto the University of Illinois Orange Course on Monday.
