The junior midfielder on the Fisher/Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley soccer team had a free kick from 20 yards on the right side.
With less than 20 minutes left in a scoreless Class 1A Urbana Uni High Regional quarterfinal match, Young unleashed a shot with his left foot.

At Mahomet. Lake of the Woods provided a home-course advantage for Mahomet-Seymour and the Bulldogs took advantage, placing five players in the top 10 and winning the first regional in school history. M-S cleared second-place LeRoy by 73 strokes in Class 1A.

At Savoy.
Led by medalist GreY Schultz and two other top-three scorers, Centennial advanced to sectionals by winning a Class 2A regional at the University of Illinois Orange Course. Schultz, who fired a 76, was followed by Charger teammates Christian Khachaturian (79) and Ryan Hunt (80). Centennial captured the team crown by 22 shots.

Bulletin Board: Central sets Hall class

CHAMPAIGN — Olympic gold medalist Tyler McGill and former All-Area Volleyball Player of the Year Julie Leman Yoder will be inducted into the Champaign Central Athletic Hall of Fame on Oct. 13.
Receiving an honorary ‘C’ that night will be Hall of Fame boys’ basketball coach Lee Cabutti.
