Rantoul 2, Prairie Central 0. Hannah Wascher's 10 kills and five blocks boosted the Eagles to a 25-20, 25-15 road win. Maddie Bounds had 10 kills for the Hawks.
Tremont 2, Ridgeview 0. Taylor Hastings had four kills and eight digs for the host Mustangs in a 25-10, 25-10 loss.
In swimming & diving
At Urbana. Sarah McGill and Katherine Penwell each won two individual events, leading Champaign Central to a 100-86 victory against Urbana at the Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center.
McGill was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 10.41 seconds) and the 100 free (59.05 seconds).
Chrisman 2, Salt Fork 0. EMILIE McFADDEN had 13 kills and six digs for the Storm in a 25-22, 25-19 loss.
Lexington 2, Fisher 0. GINA MASKO had three kills and CARLI CLIFTON had five assists for the host Bunnies in a 25-8, 25-23 loss.
URBANA — The top of the press box at Urbana's athletic complex is far enough from the field that you can easily see all the action.
Several students in teacher Erin Ludwick's journalism class are stationed there regularly, carefully recording fall sporting events and learning how to produce a broadcast and stream video online.
In girls' cross-country
At Urbana. Champaign Central won its first Twin City meet since 2003, thanks in large part to a first-place effort from HANNAH WRIGHT, who outlasted runner-up THERESA WELLE of St. Thomas More.
"Hannah's been working a long time for this," Central coach CHRISTOPHER SCHULTZ said. "This is the culmination of a lot of work."
