At Champaign. Emily Lydic won her singles and doubles matches, leading Centennial to a 9-0 victory against Decatur Eisenhower. Lydic claimed her No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-0 and teamed with Sophie Kim to win their No. 2 doubles match 8-0. Allison Hansen and Lauren Neitzel won their No. 1 doubles match 8-0.

Arthur-Lovington 2, Chrisman 0. KARLY GOODMAN had 12 kills and SHERELLE COLLER had 18 assists for the host Lancers in a 25-12, 26-24 win. BRETT BISHOP had eight kills and five blocks for the Cardinals.

Quick start shows Chargers' soccer potential

CHAMPAIGN — A three-time defending regional champion, Centennial didn't get much notice in a preseason poll of Big 12 boys' soccer coaches.

The Chargers were picked seventh.

"I feel like we have something to prove," first-year coach Andy Peralta said.

Normal West Invite. Paced by fourth-place finisher REIS DeSANTIS, Centennial finished third in the team standings. AARON MILLER was seventh and ALEC SHEDELBOWER was 12th for the Chargers.

In the girls' race, Centennial's REBECCA KAEFRING was third and JAKI VIPOND 10th.

When St. Joseph-Ogden implemented a varsity soccer team in the fall of 2009, there were six freshmen on the squad. Those six still are playing and will be the first group to play soccer four years for the Spartans.
