Koric, Uni make history

GILMAN — Tarik Koric's goal in the second overtime lifted Urbana University High to a 4-3 victory against Kankakee Bishop McNamara for the program's first Class 1A sectional title.

Koric scored off a throw-in from Alex Mestre, the team's assist leader.

Centennial making familiar noise

CHAMPAIGN — They're at it again.

The Centennial boys' soccer team showed off its postseason moxie yet again on Saturday, this time avenging a pair of regular season defeats against Big 12 Conference champ Urbana to upend the Tigers 1-0 in the final of the Class 2A Champaign Central Regional.

Uni soccer eager to take next step

GILMAN — Maybe the third time will be the charm for the Urbana University High soccer team.

Thanks to Thursday's 5-1 semifinal win against Schlarman at the Class 1A Iroquois West Sectional, the Illineks are in the sectional title match for the third time in school history, though they've never come out of that game with a win.

Big 12 soccer rivals back at it

CHAMPAIGN — The Centennial and Urbana soccer teams have met twice this season, with the Big 12 Conference champion Tigers coming out on top in both.

But how those matches played out couldn't be more different. On Sept. 2, the teams played to a 2-2 draw before Urbana took the penalty-kick shootout 5-4. On Sept. 28, the Tigers cruised to a 4-0 victory.

Schlarman, Uni play waiting game

GILMAN — Soccer typically isn't a sport that deals in rainouts. But that's basically what happened to Wednesday's Class 1A sectional semifinal between Schlarman and Urbana University High.
