Bulletin Board: Chrisman to honor Beals

CHRISMAN — One of the state’s winningest boys’ basketball coaches will have a court named in his honor Monday.

Chrisman will dedicate its court for Roger Beals, who won 541 games at the school, prior to Monday’s home varsity game against Tri-County, at about 7 p.m. Beals retired in 1992 with 638 career wins, a total that still ranks 27th on the all-time IHSA list.

Girls' Cross-Country Runner of the Year: Danville's Mercedes Elliott

DANVILLE — The first telltale sign about Mercedes Ellliott’s athletic ability came years before she ever considered participating in sports.

“During the summer, I would go outside and play tag with the neighborhood kids,” Elliott said. “They always told me I was too fast for them to catch.”
