The News-Gazette's look at area girls' cross-country rankings:
DANVILLE – The best runner in the girls' division of Saturday's Thunder Run cross-country invitational at Kickapoo State Park didn't feel her best.
"I had too much for breakfast," Oakwood/Armstrong-Potomac sophomore Ciara Pierce said. "Too many carbohydrates."
ST. JOSEPH – The expectations are different for Tom Pacey than for virtually every other area cross-country runner.
Most athletes enter meets hoping to do their best and finish among the leaders. Pacey, a senior at Paxton-Buckley-Loda, is expected to be the leader.
Sophomore paces team champions; Hardimon wins
TUSCOLA – Steve Schroeder is quickly becoming one of the area's premier cross-country runners.
PAXTON – In a cross-country race where others set the pace, the ultimate pacesetter was the runner with the most appropriate name: Tom Pacey.
CHRISMAN – Albert Anastasio endured a change of pace as he prepared for his junior season in cross-country.
"Last summer (2008), I didn't train," the University High School junior said. "I didn't realize my potential."
