HUME – Lauren Bogle had 19 points and teammates Taylor Hawkins and Lindsey Ross added 18 apiece as Shiloh beat Urbana University High 73-50 on Tuesday in girls' prep basketball.
The Raiders broke open a close game by outscoring the Illineks 25-11 in the second quarter.
MAHOMET – Freshman Kristin Belyea scored a game-high 14 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead Mahomet-Seymour to its first win of the season, a 45-31 triumph against Urbana on Monday in girls' basketball action.
Kelsie Donley added eight points and Hillary Veitch scored six for the Bulldogs (1-5).
WINNETKA – If there's ever a stage to post your best time, it would have to be the state finals. And Champaign Central's Emma Newman took advantage of the opportunity Friday in the preliminaries of the state swimming championships at New Trier, qualifying for the finals in the 100-yard breaststroke with the state's ninth-best time (1 minute, 6.72 seconds).
"That's the best I've ever done, so I was pretty happy with that," Newman said. "It was awesome. I've worked so hard, and it just pays off, and it's the best feeling in the world."
PAXTON – Erin Wachtel had 20 assists and five digs to lead St. Thomas More to a 25-17, 25-13 victory against Paxton-Buckley-Loda on Thursday in the Sangamon Valley Conference volleyball tournament.
Becca Millage and Jenna Einck each belted eight kills for the Sabers, while Megan Casagrande and Morgan Buerkett added four blocks apiece.
PAXTON – Shelby Geers' match-high 10 kills propelled St. Joseph-Ogden to a 25-17, 27-25 victory Wednesday in a quarterfinal match of the Sangamon Valley Conference volleyball tournament.
Janna Buck had 22 assists.
FORSYTH – Ryan Root tried a new approach at Saturday's Big 12 Conference boys' cross-country meet.
He might want to stick with it during the upcoming postseason run.
MONTICELLO – Steve Schroeder earned a decisive victory in the boys' Okaw Valley Conference cross-country race at Lodge Park, leading the Sages to the team title.
Schroeder covered the course in 16 minutes, 29 seconds, finishing 21 seconds in front of runner-up Clayton Baker of Shelbyville. Monticello's Luke Zocher (16:57) was fourth, and Alex Furcich (17:12) took ninth.
