The Storm (5-1) enjoyed a 5-0 week thanks to an offensive attack that generated 75 hits — Camaryn Todd had more than 10 — including home runs by Lea Hall (three) and Emilie McFadden (two). Peyton Meade won three of the games, one by shutout.

FISHER SOFTBALL

The Bunnies (5-0) won three games in three days, committing one error in 21 innings. Sophomore Kelcie Fredrickson has won her first four decisions, and senior Kalli Gosser is off to a strong start, hammering a home run against Unity. Freshman Emilee Schwing had four hits vs. Lexington.

CENTENNIAL BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

The Chargers had stellar performances from two athletes. In his indoor opener, Luke Vaughn broke the school record in the shot put (57-111/4), placing him among the top 15 all-time in the area. Teammate Jonah Peoples was the 60-meter hurdles winner at the UI Armory.

Kroner: Ex-Urbana athletes get message across

URBANA – The names are ones of multi-sport Urbana High athletes from nearly a quarter of a century ago: Kirk Mammen, Mark Mammen and Dave Williams.

The individuals are ones, however, who are still prominent in the sporting community.

They might be more recognizable by their stage names as SuperDome, Tanglefoot Jones and Six-burgh.

ARMSTRONG – Bob Bezely started teaching and coaching in the Armstrong school district in 1957. More than a half-century later, he remains active with the district as a bus driver. His lengthy tenure means one thing: He has seen hundreds and hundreds of athletes.

DANVILLE — Football players on the state’s top-ranked class 6A football team are preparing for a Friday game just like they’ve done the past three weeks.

BLUE RIDGE SOFTBALL

The Knights (17-5) extended their winning streak to 12 games, capturing six last week. Jordan Wheeler pitched a no-hitter and a two-hitter. Marcie Crawford threw a no-hitter and Staci Gardner fired a two-hitter.

The Tribe (18-5) broke their school record for wins in a season. Uzuri Williams had a double-double in the record-breaking triumph over Normal Calvary.
