MONTICELLO — Bryan Phipps isn’t out to prove anything. That mission already was accomplished.
He isn’t trying to impress anyone. The numbers speak for themselves.
The Monticello High athlete is going to play a basketball game today and then join the ranks of those who derive their enjoyment and pleasure by watching contests from the sidelines or from an armchair.
My dream job is different from my neighbor’s. That is to be expected. We are different people, with different interests.
The same is true for folks in a similar profession. One coach might covet a particular job while another wouldn’t even have enough interest to apply when the opening occurs.
VILLA GROVE — The Villa Grove school board on Monday approved a limited co-op with some sports to be shared with the Heritage school district.
While a majority of the Villa Grove board supports a full co-op, some members said they wanted more information before reaching that decision.
Sayonara, Decatur MacArthur and Decatur Eisenhower. Once the Big 12 Conference starts play in the 2014-15 school year, those two longstanding members will not find themselves in the league anymore. Both Decatur schools were accepted into the Central State Eight Conference on Wednesday. The Big 12 athletic directors met Friday morning in Peoria.

The Big 12 is getting smaller.
Decatur schools Eisenhower and MacArthur on Wednesday accepted invitations to join what will become a 10-member Central State Eight starting in the 2014-15 school year.
The decision did not catch other Big 12 administrators off guard.
PEORIA — Three officials from the Champaign-based Illinois Basketball Officials Association were selected by the IHSA to work tournament games this weekend in the 1A and 2A state finals at the Peoria Civic Center.
CHAMPAIGN — Erik Henriksen was 10 years old when the 1968 Winter Olympic Games were televised from Grenoble, France. He watched speedskating with fascination and inspiration as someone from his hometown was competing.
OAKLAND — After Charlie Carver’s last year as Tri-County boys’ basketball coach (2008-09), he and his family relocated to Florida, where he coached for a year near Lake Wales. He found, “we were back and forth a lot,” so he returned to Illinois and landed at West Central (in Biggsville) for the past two seasons.
MANSFIELD — Big changes will be taking place for the Blue Ridge High School football team in the fall.
Because of to the low numbers of students (especially juniors and seniors) who have committed to playing football for the 2013 season, Blue Ridge will only be running a junior varsity schedule.
