NORMAL — Whether he believed what he was saying or not, Centennial girls' soccer coach Hsiung Marler had a simple message for his team at halftime of its Class 2A sectional semifinal against Mahomet-Seymour on Wednesday.
"I told them we had them right where we wanted them," Marler said.
Today's Class 2A girls' soccer sectional semifinal at Normal West between Centennial and Mahomet-Seymour is a rematch of a March 29 match the Bulldogs won 2-1. It was so long ago, though, it'll have little — if any — bearing on the outcome of today's tilt.

CHILLICOTHE — Going into Tuesday's Class 1A sectional semifinal match against Princeton, St. Thomas More coach James Johnson knew his team would have to slow town Tigers star Jasmine Kunkel to have a chance. Good idea, but it didn't work.
Kunkel scored in the opening minute of the game and would score the other four goals in leading Princeton to a 5-1 win against the Sabers.
