OAKLAND — After Charlie Carver’s last year as Tri-County boys’ basketball coach (2008-09), he and his family relocated to Florida, where he coached for a year near Lake Wales. He found, “we were back and forth a lot,” so he returned to Illinois and landed at West Central (in Biggsville) for the past two seasons.

The Corn Belt Conference will have eight members once the 2014-15 school year arrives.
The conference met Thursday and approved 6-1 to add Chillicothe Illinois Valley Central to the league. Conference president Lance Thurman, the principal at Stanford Olympia, said approval required a two-thirds majority vote, but he declined to say who voted against the measure.
Champaign native Katherine Reutter, who won two Olympic medals in short-track speedskating at the 2010 Vancouver Games, is retiring.
The 24-year-old Centennial graduate said Tuesday in Salt Lake City that her body “can no longer withstand the demands of training.”

We can’t expect immediate change, but we can — and should — demand movement in a different direction.
