Bass tourney today

Bass fishing teams from Champaign Central, Centennial and St. Thomas More will square off today at the Trails of Brittany subdivision pond in Champaign.

"I thought it would be a good idea," first-year Central coach John Whalen said. "There are crosstown rivalries in other sports like baseball and basketball and football. Why not bass fishing?"

FISHER — Encouragement is what Colten Unzicker received throughout his star-studded high school athletic career at Fisher.

"All the coaches promoted other sports," Unzicker said. "At a small school, that's how it has to be done."

DANVILLE Senior Destiny Carter, the Class 2A 400-meter state champion last spring, has been removed from the Danville girls' track and field team by coach Wes Brown for "conduct" issues. He declined to elaborate futher.

HOMER — Hall of Fames are a good thing.

They commemorate a school's or a sport's elite athletes. They keep the achievements alive decades after an inductee is deceased.

They preserve history in an explanatory form, allowing modern-day athletes and fans to comprehend and appreciate what the athletes of yesteryear accomplished.
