Heavy rain and occasional thunderstorms forced the cancellation of the final round of the IHSA boys’ golf state tournaments on Saturday in the Bloomington-Normal area.
The girls’ tournaments in Decatur were plagued by soggy weather, too, but were completed after delays.
St. Teresa 7, Arthur-Lovington 1. DAVID EMRICK scored the lone goal for the Knights in the Class 1A regional semifinal defeat at Monticello.
Danville 3, Eisenhower 0. The Vikings got two goals from LUIS RUBIO and one from CHASE THURSTON.
CHAMPAIGN — Olympic gold medalist Tyler McGill and former All-Area Volleyball Player of the Year Julie Leman Yoder will be inducted into the Champaign Central Athletic Hall of Fame on Oct. 13.
Receiving an honorary ‘C’ that night will be Hall of Fame boys’ basketball coach Lee Cabutti.
In boys’ soccer
At Decatur. Dan Shin scored four goals, breaking St. Thomas More’s single-season record, as the Sabers rolled to a 7-2 victory against St. Teresa. Shin raised his season total to 32 goals, eclipsing the previous record of 30 set by John Tabb in 2010. The junior racked up 10 goals in three matches this week.
In boys' soccer
Urbana 2, Centennial 0. Jonathan Lukusa scored a goal in each half to lead the visiting Tigers to a shutout victory. Both of Lukusa's scores were unassisted. Goalkeeper Oscar Almaraz recorded seven saves for Centennial.
Urbana 2, Lanphier 1. Jessica Mack's 10 kills and 12 digs lifted the Tigers to a 20-25, 25-18, 25-18 road win. Taylor Lovett had 26 assists for Urbana.
In swimming & diving
At Urbana. Sarah McGill and Katherine Penwell each won two individual events, leading Champaign Central to a 100-86 victory against Urbana at the Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center.
McGill was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 10.41 seconds) and the 100 free (59.05 seconds).
At Monticello. ERIC PONDER, JOHN EVANS and CHAS CAMPBELL finished 1-2-3 as Tuscola won the boys' meet against Monticello. Tuscola's SUE PONDER won the girls' race, but the Sages, led by freshmen KATIE DOUGLAS (second place) and KATHLEEN TRACY (third), took the team title.
