Bulletin board: Panthers seek to end streak

LeROY — For the past four years, LeRoy's state-ranked wrestling team has had placers at the individual state finals. However, the school has not had an individual state champ since heavyweight RON OLIVER was victorious in 1984.

Coach DOUG DeWALD believes this can be the year the school's fortunes change.

Centennial 64, St. Thomas More 45. Phillip Wright scored 16 of his 22 points in the third quarter to pace the Chargers' nonconference win.

Recently: The center totaled 56 points in three wins, going over 1,000 for her career, as Shiloh (25-4) won three league games to clinch the LOVC regular season championship.

Central swimmers claim Big 12

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign Central refused to settle for second place this time.

After four consecutive runner-up finishes in the Big 12 boys' swimming and diving meet, the Maroons would not be denied Saturday at Unit 4 Pool, earning their first conference title since 2006 when the likes of state champions Tyler McGill and Ross Moore swam for Central.

Tuesday's prep highlights: Bowen-Pinto sparks Illineks

In boys' basketball

Uni High 70, LeRoy 62. TAHAR BOWEN-PINTO's 20 points and five rebounds sparked the host Illineks, who got 17 points and 10 rebounds from SIMEON WASHINGTON. ROBBIE McMILLEN added 12 points for Uni, which trailed by 12 points at halftime. SETH WARD led LeRoy with 16 points. NICK AUPPERLE added 14.

Bulletin board: Big 12 swim meet Saturday

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign Central senior Sam Stewart will look to add to his three career Big 12 individual titles when the conference holds its annual boys' swimming and diving meet Saturday at Unit 4 Pool at Centennial High School.

Stewart is the defending champion in the 100-yard butterfly. He also won league titles as a sophomore in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

Central seniors cap perfect careers in Twin City

CHAMPAIGN — If the Twin City Championships in boys' swimming and diving are a point of local pride, Champaign Central's Class of 2012 should have left Unit 4 Pool on Tuesday night with a healthy dose of self-esteem.

Maroons seniors completed their careers 4 for 4 in TC team titles, extending their school's overall streak in this annual bragging-rights meet to five.

Saturday's highlights: Shiloh wins LOVC title

In boys' basketball

- Champaign Central 57, Rock Island 50. The host Maroons outscored the defending state champions 20-12 in the fourth quarter to improve to 11-6.

CORVON BUTLER led Central with 15 points. CHRIS FREEMAN scored 10 and ALEX ROUX added nine on three three-pointers. JORDAN CAROLINE had seven rebounds for the Maroons.

Friday's highlights: Farchmin scores 1,000th point

In boys' basketball

Judah Christian 51, Uni High 48. Malik Williams had 16 points, seven assists and four rebounds to lead the host Tribe to its 10th win.

Krys McClure added 15 points and 11 rebounds and Ethan Chitty had 14 points and five rebounds for Judah (10-8).

Wednesday's higlights: Lehmann shines

In boys' swimming & diving

At Champaign. Blake Lehmann won individual titles in the 100-yard butterfly and 100 backstroke, leading Champaign Central to a 113-72 victory against Bloomington.

Lehmann, who also was part of two winning relays (200 medley, 200 freestyle), clocked 54.32 seconds in the 100 fly and 58.87 seconds in the 100 back.
