Monday's highlights: M-S softball cruises

In baseball

Centennial 12, MacArthur 2. Lucas Stefan and Ryan McCuskey each had three hits and three RBI for the Chargers (13-2) in a five-inning home win. Drey Goddard held the Generals to three hits.

Saturday's prep highlights: Danville sparkles on track

In boys' track & field

At Urbana. Josh Robinson and Cirron Clark each won two events to lead Danville to the team title of the Urbana Open.

Robinson swept the 110-meter hurdles (15.21 seconds) and 300 hurdles (41.44). Clark captured the pole vault (12 feet, 6 inches) and triple jump (42-4 1/2).

Friday's highlights: Schroeder sets meet record

In track & field

At Monticello. Monticello standout Steve Schroeder pulled double duty for the first time this season during the Monticello Boys Invitational on Friday.

Schroeder swept the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races. He took the 3,200 with a meet-record time of 9 minutes, 23.35 seconds and won the 1,600 in 4:30.

Thursday's prep highlights: Mennenga, Deaville deliver for Eagles

Rantoul 7, Olympia 1. The visiting Eagles got two hits and four RBI from MARTY MENNENGA and TERRY DEAVILLE had three hits and two RBI.

Bulletin board: SJ-O softball moves up a spot

ST. JOSEPH — The unbeaten St. Joseph-Ogden softball team (14-0) moved from No. 3 to No. 2 in this week's Class 2A state rankings, produced by the Illinois Coaches Association. The top-rated 2A team is Alton Marquette.

Monday's highlights: SJ-O baseball wins slugfest

Arthur-Lovington 17, Cero Gordo 6. Pitcher Ashley Tabb belted two grand slams and drove in nine runs to power the Knights to a home win. sherrelle collar and mallory renfro added two hits apiece for A-L.

Lincoln-Way West 5, Champaign Central 1. JOEL SPAULDING had two hits and scored the host Maroons' only run on a double by KURTIS BROWN in the championship game of the 22nd Charlie Due tournament.

Friday's highlights: Vikings win fourth straight

In baseball

Danville 6, Covington (Ind.) 3. AUSTIN WEST doubled and homered to lead the offensive attack for the visiting Vikings, who have won four straight. CASH KISER picked up his fourth win of the season, pitching 6 1/3 innings. CHASE THURSTON picked up his second save, retiring both batters he faced after entering the game with two runners on.

Charleston 13, Urbana 7. Salman Khan (two runs) and MICHAEL THOMPSON each had two hits and two RBI for the host Tigers.
