HOOPESTON – By the time Jill Doty was in high school at Hoopeston-East Lynn, she was ready to carry on a family tradition.
She literally followed the footsteps of her father, Bob.
In 1959, Bob Doty was the 100-yard dash state champion (10.0 seconds) and the state runner-up in the 220-yard dash as a student at St. Elmo High School.
CHAMPAIGN – Julian Boswell tossed a three-hitter to lead St. Thomas More to a 10-0 victory against Maroa-Forsyth in prep baseball Friday.
Tyler Sullivan, Tyler Brown, Will Rudolphi, Parker Stewart and Sean Heffernan had two hits apiece for the Sabers (23-4). Boswell fanned 11.
CATLIN – Eight weekends ago, Josh Chandler and Nathan Fathauer were helping Salt Fork celebrate a boys' basketball state championship.
CULLOM – Luke Ducey pitched a five-inning perfect game on his birthday as St. Thomas More rolled to a 10-0 baseball victory against Tri-Point on Thursday.

URBANA – Before she ever even stepped foot on a track, Urbana's Alyssa Wood had an idea that she might be successful in the sport.
She was a middle school student, and a physical education class entailed a game of touch football.

Recently: One of two area athletes this season to run the 3,200 meters under 10 minutes, he won Friday's Spartan Classic in 9 minutes, 58.77 seconds.

ST. THOMAS MORE BOYS' TRACK AND FIELD
The Sabers captured team honors in the 21-school Spartan Classic. The school won five of 14 individual events and also had a runner-up as well as a third-place finisher.
DANVILLE – With an enrollment listed by the IHSA of 1,611, Danville is the area's largest high school.
But in 2005 – one season before Steve Luke took over the program – the boys' track and field roster showed five athletes.
Things have certainly changed.
This year's team is 46 strong.
CHAMPAIGN – Brittany Einck scattered four hits and struck out seven batters in five innings of work to lead St. Thomas More to a 10-0 softball win Monday against Clifton Central.
