When BRANDON NOE showed up for his Class 1A discus final at the state track and field meet Saturday in Charleston, he had clear designs on catching leader ALEX THOMPSON of Winnebago.
Noe, a St. Thomas More junior, was in second place, 12 feet behind Thompson's prelims mark of 179 feet, 8 inches.
CHARLESTON – For the bulk of a hot, sun-drenched afternoon, Champaign Central junior Ian Wells was plopped on a cushy place inside Lantz Fieldhouse adjacent to the Class 2A state track and field meet.
"I found a comfy spot on the high jump mat," Wells said.
CHARLESTON – By the time lunchtime arrived on Friday, Centennial's Davin Dollison was spent.
The senior was the last Class 2A competitor in the field events at the state meet, finishing up his triple jumps after the others because of conflicts with his running prelims.
