MATTOON – Danville's Josh Viljevac and Cameron Ford won individual titles to help the Vikings finish fifth in the Big 12 boys' track and field meet Thursday.

CATLIN – Danielle Biggerstaff, Erika Ramos and Hannah Wilkins concluded their Vermilion Valley Conference track and field careers the same way they started them.
The three seniors completed four-year runs as conference champions in Tuesday's league meet.
The 28th annual News-Gazette Honor Roll Track and Field meet is May 18 at the University of Illinois track. Gates open at 4 p.m. Field events start at 5 p.m. Running events start at 6 p.m. There are 18 total events for boys and 18 for girls. The weekly Honor Roll will be used to determine entries, but there will be a 4:30 p.m. scratch meeting where any openings will be filled by those in attendance. Coaches will need to contact The News-Gazette sports department (217-351-5232) May 16 and May 17 in the late afternoon or early evening to verify their school's list of competitors. Additionally, the UI will follow the same pattern for parking as in years past: Weather permitting, parking will be available in the grass lot west of the baseball field, with no parking on the grass by the track or along St. Mary's Road. Admission charge for spectators is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Concessions will be available out of the baseball stadium.
BLOOMINGTON – Centennial's Imy Bullock won the high jump and the Chargers took the 800 and 1,600 relays at the Big 12 girls' track and field meet Friday.
CATLIN – The Streak turned 10 on Friday and a decade of dominance by Salt Fork throwers in the Vermilion County track and field meet shows no signs of a letup.
Since the end of the 1990s, every county shot put champion in the girls' division has worn a Salt Fork uniform. Six consecutive discus winners have not only been Salt Fork athletes but also daughters of the Storm's throws coach, Herb Wilkins.
GIBSON CITY – In a matchup of the final unbeaten softball teams in the Heart of Illinois Conference, Gibson City- Melvin-Sibley stayed that way.
ST. JOSEPH – Michael Pearce is Villa Grove High School's best-ever weight man. The senior will enjoy the designation as long as he can.
He recognizes his shot put mark may not survive as long as his predecessor's.
