FITHIAN — Cameron Lee is the All-Star of the All-Stars.

The recent Oakwood High School graduate is well-credentialed.

Last weekend, he was the starting right tackle for the victorious East squad in its 24-23 victory in the Order of the Eastern Star game in Decatur.

What a school year! State championship teams, state championship individuals, top-ranked teams. Underclassmen who have already committed to Division I universities. Athletes who are being wooed by Division I coaches. Some memories are still vivid in our minds. Some had almost been forgotten.

Danville, Monticello feel enrollment sting

Last year, schools such as Clinton, Danville, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, St. Thomas More and Tuscola were among the ones upset with the IHSA's postseason assignments, which are based on enrollments.

This year, Danville and Monticello are among the ones unhappy with how the enrollment breaks worked out.

Winds of change blowing through Okaw Valley Conference

MONTICELLO — The Okaw Valley Conference will start its 87th year of competition in August.

It won't be the last year for the venerable league, but it likely will be the next-to-last in its current 12-school setup.

Boys' Track Athlete of Year: Schroeder's a real goal-getter

MONTICELLO — Steve Schroeder's destination never will be defined by the boundaries of a cross-country course or a track oval.

He is heading to locations beyond where his legs will carry him.

Schroeder's start came while attending Monticello High School. He never wanted to be typecast into a particular category, such as "athlete."

Boys' Track Coach of the Year: Jeff Butler, Monticello

Why: Guided the Sages to a third-place finish in the Class 1A state track and field meet. The school's first state trophy in the sport completed a bookend performance by the Sages. In the fall, Butler's boys' cross-country team also placed third at state.

Girls' track Athlete of the Year: Sydni Meunier

GIBSON CITY — Sydni Meunier's training regimen provides ample food for thought.

A two-event individual state champion for two consecutive years, the recent Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley graduate made sure her body was prepared for the gruelling grind of competitive running.

"If you put good in, you get good out," Meunier said.
