FITHIAN — Those who know Brandon Divan know that he likes to run.

"Running is my own form of therapy," he said. "It's just you and the woods. It's so calming. It's like nothing else matters. It's my getaway.

"If I'm having a bad day, I feel like working out. It clears my mind."

Seniors lead GCMS to second at state

CHARLESTON — Sydni Meunier, Angel Gaesser and Jordyn Nettleton deserve a hand for their tremendous feat.

The trio of Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley seniors accounted for points in seven events and championships in three as the Falcons earned their first team trophy in girls' track and field Saturday with an IHSA Class 1A runner-up finish.

Schroeder, Arteaga each earn four state berths

MONTICELLO — Smiles abounded in Monticello, and a lot of them were coming from the athletes wearing purple jerseys during the boys' sectional track and field meet Friday.

The Sages had a big night, highlighted by a few quadruple state qualifiers.

PBL's fantastic finish nets track crown

PAXTON — For two schools that couldn't recall having won a sectional crown in their boys' track and field history, it only seemed fitting that such a title would have to come the hard way for Paxton-Buckley-Loda or Tri-Valley on Friday night.

And it did — for both.

M-S hurdler learning on the fly

CHARLESTON — Jessica Burke knows better than anyone it's not how you start — or even when you start — it's all about the finish.

Records will show the Mahomet-Seymour senior will close her prep career today as one of the state's top nine Class 2A 300-meter hurdlers. One month ago, that wasn't even a dream.

For Thompson, best is yet to come

CHARLESTON — Samone Thompson had her final auditions Friday. Saturday, the Champaign Central senior will join the cast of nine finalists in two hurdles races at the 40th IHSA Class 2A girls' state track and field championships.

She could have a tough time trying to earn the lead.
