Thursday's prep highlights: Marquez powers Cissna Park

CISSNA PARK — Josh Marquez went 3 for 3 with four RBI, leading Cissna Park to a 10-6 victory and a split in its baseball doubleheader against Momence on Thursday.

The Timberwolves lost the first game 13-11.

In the second game, Alex Rabe hit a two-run home run and Jacob Marquez went 3 for 4 with two RBI.

Monday's prep highlights: Reinbold powers Sages in soccer

MATTOON — Emma Reinbold had a hat trick, leading Monticello to a 3-1 victory against Mattoon on Monday in girls’ soccer.
Sages keeper Elizabeth McGiles recorded nine saves.

At Champaign. Danville won three events, including two by Alexus Jimson-Miller, en route to finishing second in the 37-team Gene Armer Invitational girls’ meet at the University of Illinois Armory.

Friday's prep highlights: Unity edges LeRoy in baseball

In baseball
Cissna Park 5, Fisher 3. The host Timberwolves were limited to three hits but took advantage of four Fisher errors to win their opener. Beau Anderson and Alex Rabe each had one hit and one RBI for Cissna Park. Kyle Williams and Tate Estes had two hits and one RBI apiece for the Bunnies.

Bulletin Board: Vaughn breaks throwing hand

Centennial senior LUKE VAUGHN has broken records nearly every time he has tossed a shot put during the indoor track and field season.

He most likely won’t do so anytime soon after he broke his right hand.

Vaughn, who signed with Mississippi in February, suffered the injury Saturday during a meet at Plainfield North. He was running in a sprint event and placed second.

DANVILLE GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD
For the ninth time in the past 12 years, the Vikings captured the Big 12 Conference indoor league crown. Alexus Jimson-Miller won three events, sprinter Emone Davis was victorious and the 800-meter relay was triumphant. Davis was joined on that foursome by Ambrosia Williams, Jorriel Stewart and Arionna Graham.

Recently: Mississippi recruit set another school record in the shot put at Plainfield North with a toss of 59 feet, 71/2 inches.
