Kroner: Brian Clapp chose another sports path than big sister Marissa

BISMARCK – Sports annals are filled with stories about siblings who have excelled in high school athletics.

Many are like the Mammens of the 1980s.

Weather wins out on area tracks

ST. JOSEPH – Inclement weather forced Friday's Spartan Classic to be postponed, but Tyler Carter still managed to strut his stuff.

The Tuscola star won the long jump and triple jump before the boys' track and field meet was called. Paxton-Buckley-Loda's Nick Brehm won the 3,200 meters, Urbana University High won the 3,200 relay and St. Joseph-Ogden claimed the varsity 400 relay.

Feeney, Hogan continue push

GIBSON CITY – St. Thomas More's Cara Feeney and St. Joseph-Ogden's Hannah Hogan know each other well.

The high school seniors have been competing in distance races at area track meets since the fifth or sixth grade.

Confident Carter on a roll

MONTICELLO – Last May, Tyler Carter left the state track meet in Charleston with three medals dangling from his neck. The Tuscola star placed in the triple jump (fifth), 110-meter hurdles (sixth) and was a member of the 800 relay team that finished eighth.

Carter's proud of his accomplishments from last year's meet but has set his goals higher for his final high school season.

McMillan hits her stride

ARTHUR – Arthur sprinter Stacie McMillan helped lead the Knights to a second-place team finish Friday at the 12-team Arthur Invitational.

McMillan anchored the winning 400-meter relay team (53.3 seconds) that beat second-place Neoga by more than three seconds (56.7).

Carter dominates at Top Times meet

BLOOMINGTON – Tuscola's Tyler Carter won the 55-meter hurdles and the long jump Friday at the Illinois Prep Top Times Indoor Classic hosted by Illinois Wesleyan.

Carter won the 55 hurdles by 0.02 second, edging Hampshire's Quinn Walker in 7.77 seconds.
