Uni swimmers excel in finale
Despite not qualifying for state, Uni High had a series of banner performances in Saturday’s girls’ sectional swim meet at Unit 4 Pool.

Titans send seniors out on winning note

NORMAL — Drew Robertson knew this day would be different. It was Saturday.

“This year,” the Tri-County volleyball coach said, “we were 0-3 on Fridays and 36-0 on every other day.”

The Titans capped the winningest season for any Oakland or Kansas team, sweeping Valmeyer 25-15, 25-21 in the Class 1A IHSA third-place match at Illinois State University’s Redbird Arena.

More could be in store for Centennial

NORMAL — It’s an almost-automatic assumption.

Volleyball teams that place at state and have nine seniors on the roster are believed to be nearing the rebuilding phase of their program.

Everyone contributes as Chargers rebound for third

NORMAL — Fourteen Centennial volleyball athletes were in uniform for Saturday’s Class 3A IHSA third-place state tournament match.

By design, 14 players got in on the action as the Chargers swept Jacksonville 25-15, 25-19 to complete the best Centennial season in school history.

Centennial’s Chargers brought their smiles after a three-set Class 3A semifinal loss to eight-time volleyball champion Wheaton St. Francis on Friday.

Tough scheduling helped prepare Bergman's club

NORMAL — Centennial’s volleyball team put itself in position for success long before Friday’s Class 3A state semifinal match began.

The Chargers faced a challenging schedule, one where the team was not only competitive but also victorious.

Tri-County focused on finishing strong

NORMAL — A new day won’t bring a change of attitude for Tri-County setter Amber Meyer.

“I’ll be as excited to be out there as I was today,” Meyer said.

Centennial volleyball dressed to the nines

Centennial is headed to state for the first time, due in part to a talented and tenacious senior class. Here’s more on the Chargers, courtesy prep sports coordinator Fred Kroner:

Middle school memories stick with Chargers

CHAMPAIGN — Maddie Weldon could have been a lot of things: angry, discouraged, frustrated.

Instead, she demonstrated maturity beyond her years and was accepting of a situation she would rather have not been in.
