Scott Hamilton’s Rockets (11-1) relied on a defense that limited previously unbeaten Williamsville to 96 yards’ total offense. The key was a ball-control offense that kept possession for 30:05 of the 48-minute game. Unity completed one pass and gained its other 194 yards on the ground.

“This year,” the Tri-County volleyball coach said, “we were 0-3 on Fridays and 36-0 on every other day.”
The Titans capped the winningest season for any Oakland or Kansas team, sweeping Valmeyer 25-15, 25-21 in the Class 1A IHSA third-place match at Illinois State University’s Redbird Arena.

Centennial’s Chargers brought their smiles after a three-set Class 3A semifinal loss to eight-time volleyball champion Wheaton St. Francis on Friday.

“I’ll be as excited to be out there as I was today,” Meyer said.

CHAMPAIGN — Maddie Weldon could have been a lot of things: angry, discouraged, frustrated.
Instead, she demonstrated maturity beyond her years and was accepting of a situation she would rather have not been in.
