Unity fishermen move up
TOLONO — Unity's Rockets had the best second-day score of any of the schools competing in the fourth annual IHSA bass fishing state tournament last weekend at Lake Carlyle.
The team's second-day catches weighed in at 15 pounds, 12 ounces and enabled Unity to move from 35th place after the first day to ninth overall.
RANTOUL — After four seasons in charge of the Rantoul football program, SHANE CARTER is no longer the Eagles' head coach.
Carter officially resigned from the position Friday after learning earlier last week he would not be retained by the RTHS school board. Carter compiled a 7-29 record during his tenure, which came after he served six seasons as a Rantoul assistant coach.

ST. CHARLES — Maureen Niski didn't make it to her 10-year high school class reunion, but it wasn't due to apathy.
"I was two weeks from delivering Caroline," she said.
When the 20-year gathering rolled around for members of the Champaign Central Class of 1981, the former Maureen Casserly was in attendance.
"This changed our family's life," she said.

Why: The Big 12 Conference co-champions tied a school-record for wins in a season (34) while advancing to the sectional finals in Class 3A. It was the Chargers' fifth straight 30-win season and the best single-season winning percentage in school history (89.5 percent).
Watseka senior, outside hitter
Why she made it: Set single-season school records for kills (351) and aces (92) as Watseka set its record for wins in a season (34). Plans to major in biology and play volleyball in college, but the salutatorian candidate is undecided on a university.
BROADLANDS — Mariah Coleman's path to the future didn't start last week. Signing a national letter of intent seven days ago to play volleyball at Indiana University wasn't the culmination of her trek, merely another step along the tedious route.
