GALESBURG — Centennial’s best volleyball team got even better Saturday.
Two days after breaking the school’s single-season record for wins, the Chargers continued their series of postseason sweeps by topping Rock Falls 25-17, 25-21 to guarantee themselves of a state trophy for the first time in volleyball.

There’s a reason Centennial (Class 3A) and Tri-County (Class 1A) have advanced to the Elite Eight in volleyball in their respective classes. It’s the same reason: veteran senior standout players.
STRASBURG — When Oakland and Kansas high schools joined forces in volleyball, good things began to happen.
On Thursday night, Tri-County won its first sectional title as a co-op team with a 25-14, 25-9 victory against Arthur-Lovington. The last sectional crown for either Tri-County school was by Kansas in 2000.
DANVILLE — Laura Gross came out intense.
So did her Schlarman volleyball teammates, including junior middle hitter Jordan Marganski, junior outside hitter Janelle Marion, senior outside hitter Ella Black, sophomore outside hitter Joslyn Dietzen, freshman libero Sierra Bell and freshman middle hitter Shelby Mascari.
NORMAL — Centennial’s volleyball team not only works together on the court but also when it’s time to answer questions.
The Chargers overpowered Metamora’s 30-win team, 25-10, 25-16, Thursday night to earn the school’s third Class 3A sectional crown in five years.
Libby Cocagne, one of nine Centennial seniors, excitedly exclaimed, “We had five goals. This was the final one.”

Metamora, not so much.
The Chargers (34-4) will play the Redbirds for a Class 3A sectional championship at 7 p.m. Thursday at Normal University High School after his squad defeated Bartonville Limestone 25-9, 25-12 on Tuesday night in the semifinals.
ST. JOSEPH — All volleyball teams staving off elimination want is a chance.
St. Thomas More and Bismarck-Henning had opportunities to extend their seasons past Tuesday night’s Class 2A sectional semifinal matches.
But Decatur St. Teresa and Tri-Valley had other ideas.
Those two schools showed why they are two of 16 teams left in
