GALESBURG — Centennial’s best volleyball team got even better Saturday.

Kroner: A fantastic volleyball Final Four

Prep sports coordinator Fred Kroner’s take on today’s volleyball super-sectionals:

There’s a reason Centennial (Class 3A) and Tri-County (Class 1A) have advanced to the Elite Eight in volleyball in their respective classes. It’s the same reason: veteran senior standout players.

Tri-County triumph a history-maker

STRASBURG — When Oakland and Kansas high schools joined forces in volleyball, good things began to happen.

On Thursday night, Tri-County won its first sectional title as a co-op team with a 25-14, 25-9 victory against Arthur-Lovington. The last sectional crown for either Tri-County school was by Kansas in 2000.

DANVILLE — Laura Gross came out intense.

So did her Schlarman volleyball teammates, including junior middle hitter Jordan Marganski, junior outside hitter Janelle Marion, senior outside hitter Ella Black, sophomore outside hitter Joslyn Dietzen, freshman libero Sierra Bell and freshman middle hitter Shelby Mascari.

Libby Cocagne, one of nine Centennial seniors, excitedly exclaimed, “We had five goals. This was the final one.”

Centennial prepares for unfamiliar volleyball foe

NORMAL — Centennial volleyball coach Stan Bergman knows a lot about Big 12 volleyball rival Bloomington.

Metamora, not so much.

The Chargers (34-4) will play the Redbirds for a Class 3A sectional championship at 7 p.m. Thursday at Normal University High School after his squad defeated Bartonville Limestone 25-9, 25-12 on Tuesday night in the semifinals.

STM, B-H fall short in semifinals

ST. JOSEPH — All volleyball teams staving off elimination want is a chance.
St. Thomas More and Bismarck-Henning had opportunities to extend their seasons past Tuesday night’s Class 2A sectional semifinal matches.
But Decatur St. Teresa and Tri-Valley had other ideas.
Those two schools showed why they are two of 16 teams left in
