WESTVILLE – Maddy Stutsman served 17 straight points, including seven aces, for Salt Fork in a 25-17, 25-10 win against Westville on Thursday.
Stutsman also had 20 assists. Heather Baker added eight kills and four blocks for the Storm, which got four kills, four aces, three blocks and 10 digs from Megan McCord.
CHAMPAIGN – Centennial's volleyball program seems to undergo an annual refurbishing. Players change as graduations occur, but the success rate doesn't fluctuate.
WATSEKA – Kloie McCann had 20 assists, eight digs and three aces for Watseka, which defeated CPCI 25-10, 25-13 on Thursday to give coach Krista Pufahl her 100th career victory.
No school has such an ambitious schedule to start the season as Watseka. In the space of five days in the first week, the Warriors played in two tournaments.
CHAMPAIGN – Felix and Colleen Madera are known among friends as The Volleyball Family.
For more than a decade, one or both have been fixtures on the local and area club, high school or collegiate volleyball courts.
RANTOUL – Angela Schweighart's coaching career is off to a faster start than her teaching career.
Unable to find a full-time job in the education profession in her first semester out of Millikin University, Schweighart is serving as a substitute teacher while devoting the remainder of her time to being Urbana High School's first-year volleyball head coach.
For the sixth consecutive year, prep sports coordinator Fred Kroner contacted every volleyball coach from conferences in our area for their thoughts on the upcoming season. Here they are, league by league:
