PBL, STM on collision course

TOLONO — It will be experience against youth.

It will be Paxton-Buckley-Loda playing St. Thomas More on Thursday in the Class 2A regional volleyball championship match at Unity’s Rocket Center.

Clinton's Hickman an athlete for all seasons

MONTICELLO — Morgan Hickman is within months of completing a trifecta rarely attained by high school athletes. The Clinton senior soon will become a four-year varsity starter in all three sports she plays.
What it means, she said, is “I’ve been through a lot of Senior Nights.”
That experience didn’t prepare her for her own this week. “There were a lot of tears shed,” she said.

At suburban Chicago. Allison Hansen of Centennial fell one win short of advancing to the singles quarterfinals at the IHSA state tournament.
The Chargers senior won her first two matches in straight sets before losing to Sycamore’s Angela Ye 6-0, 0-6, 6-3 in the third round.


Wednesday's highlights: Centennial sweeps in volleyball

In volleyball

Centennial 2, Chatham Glenwood 0. Lauren Cloyd and Rachel Jones each recorded seven kills, leading the Chargers to a 25-16, 25-15 home victory. Lindsay Rogan had seven digs and Paulina Nottingham contributed 12 assists for the Big 12 Conference co-champions in the nonconference match.

Athletes of the Week: Cowan and Hanselman

Kayla Cowan, Paxton-Buckley-Loda, volleyball, Senior
Recently: Setter directed the Panthers to wins against three of the area’s top teams — Schlarman, Watseka and SJ-O — in a four-day span. The latter two wins clinched the regular season SVC title. She also broke her own single-match school record of 30 assists with 35 against Rantoul.
