Cunningham, Gooch & Co. enjoying Rockets' state ride
TOLONO – It wasn't difficult for junior Rachel Cunningham or senior Lexie Gooch to educate themselves on the storied tradition of Unity High School volleyball.
TOLONO – It's a different volleyball state tournament than when sophomore Kristy Duncan was there in 1994 with her Warrensburg-Latham teammates.
Last decade, eight schools advanced to the state quarterfinals and only those which won first-round matches departed with a trophy.
PEORIA – The second sectional champion in CPCI's volleyball history will not advance to the state finals.
The Timberwolves dropped their Class 1A Peoria Heights super-sectional match to Sciota West Prairie 25-14, 25-15.
PANA – Confidence was something that was lacking for Unity volleyball at the start of its season.
Those days are a distant memory.
CHATHAM – Centennial played at a disadvantage Saturday in its Class 3A super-sectional final against Breese Mater Dei.
The Chargers were without senior captain Sara Dalbey because of illness in their 25-20, 25-13 loss to the state powerhouse. Even though the Chargers did not reach the state finals, they are content with their campaign.
