Bulletin board: Panthers seek to end streak
LeROY — For the past four years, LeRoy's state-ranked wrestling team has had placers at the individual state finals. However, the school has not had an individual state champ since heavyweight RON OLIVER was victorious in 1984.
Coach DOUG DeWALD believes this can be the year the school's fortunes change.

Better late than never for Mammen
MOUNT ZION — The question to Cameron Mammen was simple and direct: Do you consider yourself more of a wrestler who also plays football or a football player who also wrestles?
The Urbana High School junior, who has won every match he has wrestled this season at 170 pounds, answered without hesitation.
"A football player who also wrestles," Mammen said.

MONTICELLO — The reigning Class 1A cross-country state champion will continue his distance-running career at Notre Dame.
Senior Steve Schroeder, from Monticello, is the second area state champion within a week to sign with the Irish. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley's Sydni Meunier made her commitment last week..
Mammen perfectly marvelous
MAHOMET — On a Saturday when 14 individuals stood atop the awards podium after winning their weight classes in Mahomet-Seymour's Class 2A Regional, Urbana's Cameron Mammen stood alone.
The 170-pound junior is the only one with an unbeaten season record.

LeROY WRESTLING
The state-ranked Panthers (23-1) repeated as champions of the Heart of Illinois Conference, winning all five dual meets. Out of a possible 70 individual matches, LeRoy wrestlers won 63 of them. In nine weight classes, the Panthers (second in Class 1A) were 5-0 during the competition.
