Uni High hires Lindemann
URBANA – Recent Siena College graduate Allie Lindemann has been hired as the Urbana Uni High girls' basketball head coach. Lindemann was a former All-Area Player of the Year standout at Champaign Central and also played for Kirkwood Community College's junior college national champions.
Mammen wins state title
URBANA – Freshman Cameron Mammen, from Urbana, won the 152-pound Cadet Division freestyle wrestling state championship last weekend at the UI Armory.
CHAMPAIGN – Mikki Johnson is still the concerned parent of teenage athletes, but the former Illinois football player has fewer worries this week.
Unity's Perry makes choice
TOLONO – Unity senior Austin Perry signed a letter of intent last week to continue his basketball career at Springfield's Lincoln Land Community College. He also considered the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Hoffman to dive for Delaware
URBANA – Nick Hoffman of Urbana will continue his diving career at the University of Delaware after orally committing to the Blue Hens. The Tigers senior, who also considered offers from St. Bonaventure and Georgetown, plans to sign a national letter of intent sometime in May. He received a partial scholarship from Delaware.
When the current school year ends, so too will an established way of doing things for numerous area high schools.
As schools throughout Illinois await promised state money, the lack of available funding now is forcing many districts to implement cuts as a means to curb spending.
It's official: They do good work
The Champaign-based Illini Basketball Officials Association was well-regarded when the IHSA handed out postseason assignments for officials last month.
FISHER – There have been area wrestling state champions before.
A few have even ended their stellar seasons unbeaten.
Seldom has any area athlete put together a season that was as overpowering as Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/Fisher senior Guy Kirby did this winter.

The Chargers concluded the regular season with 28 consecutive Big 12 Conference wins and have victories in 45 of their last 46 games. Rayvonte Rice (23.8 average) is within reach of the single-season school scoring mark (24.0).
